You will be responsible for the Mechanical and Structural Engineering Design for Quasar’s satellite ground station communications business. The Quasar antennas and transceiver systems operate over a wide frequency range and encompass the fields of cryogenically cooled microwave receivers, phased array feed systems, active electronically scanned array transmitters, and specialised RF electronics, digital and signal processing systems.
The role involves the analysis and design (mechanical, thermal and materials) for the array, and you will work closely with the electronics engineering team as well as manufacturing partners to take the system to commercial production.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience developing mechanical designs for RF, Automotive, Aerospace, or Space applications
- Experience in Mechanical Engineering and designing for Electronics.
- Experience in thermal analysis and modelling highly desirable
- Experience supporting designs into production highly desirable
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using a variety of fabrication methods including CNC machining, electroplating, etc.
- Detailed understanding of metals, plastics and their properties, under load, thermal stress
Your work will include:
- Designing the components, sub-assemblies and complete assembly for the phased array antennas
- Support system level design and tradeoffs using mechanical analysis and knowledge of the field
- Working closely with Antenna and RF engineers to implement enclosure designs and thermal relief structures for antennas and the array
- Working closely with the Hardware engineering team to design and develop innovative cooling solutions for printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- 3D modelling of the entire antenna system, support structures and peripheral components
- Finite element modelling and verification
- Thermal modelling of the system
- Load and stress analysis
- Supporting the designs into production, help define and agree on acceptance criteria
